Santa's Visit and a Special Gift
What a fantastic day we had today, 25th November, in the school. We had a visit from Santa. He arrived in a fire engine and the children loved hearing the sirens and the music. Santa listened to the children singing some Christmas songs and he turned on the lights on the Christmas Tree. The children had lots of questions for Santa and they were thrilled to see him. On behalf of the students and the school we would like to thank the Parents Association for organising Santa's gift from him. He told the children that a Pantomime would be arriving in the school for the children as part of their Christmas gift. Santa thanked the Parents Association for finding the Pantomime 'Sleeping Beauty' for us to watch. Also a big thank you to the Parents Association and Val the school caretaker for making sure that the tree was ready for Santa to turn on the lights, GRMA.
At 12.30pm the Pantomime began. The children loved the show. The children from Junior Infants to 6th Class all took part in the show - some of the children even went up to assist on stage!. It was an amazing day for the whole school and it really began the Christmas feeling for everyone. Thank you to Ms Coburn for all the hard work managing the events for the day, to the choir for their contribution and all the teachers who helped throughout the day. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in St Nicholas'.

The School Choir Visit a Nursing Home
On December 15th some of the children from the school choir visited a nursing home to sing for the residents. The children had a great time. The residents had a few requests for them to sing! It was a lovely experience for the children and the residents.
The Feast of St Nicholas Whole School Mass
On Tuesday the 6th of December the whole school attended mass to celebrate the Feast of St Nicholas. Fr. Louis sang some songs which the children loved and he gave a lovely sermon about being nice to others. The choir performed for the first time and they sang lovely festive songs for the mass. Children from 1st to 6th class read prayers and readings throughout the mass.
School Assembly November 2022
On the 24th of November, Junior Infants attended their first assembly in the school. Ms. Coburn opened the ceremony with a prayer. She then introduced the school choir who were newly formed at the end of September this year. The assembly was their first performance and they sang beautifully, everyone was very impressed. Ms. Murray, Ms. Walsh and Mr. Regan are so proud of all your hard work, well done.
Ms Coburn then introduced the new Student Council. Each class representative explained the work that the Student Council will do this year in the school and they were presented with their Student Council badge by Ms. Espey and Ms. Keogh. We are all looking forward to hearing all the ideas that the students come up with around the school.
We then had a presentation for the Girl's Football team who made it to the final of Cumann na mBunscol which was held in Navan O Mahony's. We listened to a lovely speech by the team captain. They narrowly missed out on being crowned champions, but they played amazing on the day. Ms. Bagnall, Ms. Keogh and Ms. McLoughlin were so proud of your commitment and hard work over the past few months, well done girls.
Finally Mr. Regan informed everyone that the 6th Class children would be performing in the village on the 9th and 16th of December. Like last year they are raising money for charity. This Christmas they have chosen 'Alone' as the beneficiary. We are looking forward to the upcoming bake sale in the school to fund raise for Alone too.

Science Week 2022
Science week took place in the school from 14th - 18th of November. Here are some images from Room's 5,6,9 &11.
Room 5 were learning all about the different states. They melted chocolate and dipped marshmallows in it to see how long it took to go from it’s solid to liquid form. They made playdough, which was a bit messier than expected!!
They made rice krispie buns and their Titanic’s were also constructed this week.
They were invited in to Ms Houlihan’s classroom to watch Fanstatic Mr. Fox together and eat the rice krispie buns!
Room 6 constructed their Titanics. They also learned about floating and sinking in Science.
Room 9 were very busy this week doing science lessons testing the strength of magnets, making magnetic cars, watching skittles diffuse in water, watching the reaction between vinegar and baking powder and making paper helicopters!
Room 11 demonstrated what happens when you turn milk from a liquid to a solid.

Our New Sensory Room 'Cloudy Falls'
On Friday 23rd of September we opened our new sensory room. A competition was held within the school to give the sensory room it's own unique name which reflected the tranquility of the room. There were lots of amazing suggestions, however, Christian from 4th Class came up with the winning name 'Cloudy Falls'. Lots of parents, members of the Board of Management and pupils were present to celebrate in the official opening of the new sensory room. We must extend a special thank you to Moyvalley Meats for their donation towards the sensory room. Finally, thank you to Ms Djennadi and Imelda for setting up the sensory room for the students.
We Welcomed Local Artist Seamus Smyth to the School

Seamus Smyth returned to the school to view his art work that he painted for the school in 2009.
Reminiscing on his 50 year art career, he spoke of the importance of the paintings and how he had included members of his family in the paintings so they were very important to him.
The paintings are proudly displayed throughout the school. The image with Seamus is located just inside the main entrance of the school.
Thank you for the visit Seamus.
