Dietary Advice on Nuts avoidance
It is the policy of this school to exclude all nuts and their products whenever any nut causes an allergic reaction.
All labels must be carefully examined and the product avoided if any of the following is listed.
Unwrapped foods or those without a list of ingredients should be avoided.
Avoid foods with the statement – “may contain nuts” on the wrapper.
Foods sold as health foods may have greater risk of containing nuts e.g. health bars and biscuits.
Vegetarian foods may use nut as their protein source, so check the label (it may be soya or nut).
If a compound ingredient makes up less than 25% of the finished product the ingredients may not be listed, so take care if biscuit is listed as an ingredient.
Hydrolysed vegetable oils are considered safe to use but avoid partially hydrolysed oils that may be in cakes or biscuits.
Remember, food manufactures may change the contents of their products without notice so re-check labels regularly.
